Happy March from the Team at ForwarDirections!

March

How much luck is there in getting into college? Since St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in March, we wondered about how much luck it takes to get into college. As we wrote in our recent blogpost, there are four main areas that colleges consider when deciding whether or not to admit students: grades, college entrance exams (ACT or SAT), essay writing, and student involvements (leadership, sports, community service, work experience, etc.). Read the articles at the end of this newsletter to see how much “luck” is needed to get into a college of your choice.

Congrats

…to the students in our ForwarDirections senior network for their acceptances to the following colleges: CSUs including Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Fresno State, Sacramento State, and San Diego State; UC’s, including UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz, and UC San Diego; and private universities, including Boston College, Boston Conservatory, Boston University, Cal Lutheran, Concordia University (Irvine), Santa Clara University, Loyola (New Orleans), Wagner College, St. Mary’s, University of San Francisco, and USC.

ACT-or-SATACT and/or SAT: When should I take these exams? Students should plan on taking these tests at least two times. It is recommended that students take these tests no later than the spring of their junior year so they can take it again in the fall of their senior year. This will allow students to get the best score possible prior before submitting their college applications. How do you choose which test to take? Read this article to learn more about that.
